Diane Verrochi – NursingGeek

Iā€™m a geek, a writer, a gamer, a nurse educator, and sporadic textile arts enthusiast. Some of my current literary influences are Mary Robinette Kowal and the rest of the Writing Excuses podcasters (Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, Howard Tayler, and their various awesome guests, such as C.L. Polk, Aliette de Bodard, and Piper J. Drake). On the gaming side, I lean towards open sandboxes like Minecraft and character-centric story games like Spiritfarer, or else extreme weirdness combined with weaponized kindness aka GISH (the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt). LGBTQIA+ health is my passion as a nurse and nurse educator, and that tends to come through in both my storytelling and my gameplay.

How long have you been creating?
Iā€™ve been writing since I was a kid, got put off it thanks to a creative writing professor who didnā€™t believe ā€œgenreā€ was real writing, and decades later got writing again thanks to the fanfiction community on LiveJournal. These days, Iā€™m working on honing my craft to hopefully start putting some original stories out into the world.

What stands out in your creative career?
That’s a tough one! I don’t yet have any fiction published. Well, original fiction, that is. On the fanfiction side, I’m currently pretty proud of “This Hallowed House,” a cute story I wrote for Yuletide this year in the October Daye universe. As a bonus, other people seem to like it too.

What do you stream? (or write in what genre)
I write fantasy, science fiction, and kids’ stories. I stream a combination of writing, gaming (mostly Minecraft) and occasional other random things.

How long have you been streaming?
Since August 2021.

How do you keep your viewers engaged?
Mostly through chat and recently have added a Kappamon to greet people as they arrive in chat.

What is your favorite thing about streaming?
Interacting with people while I write or game.

Have you met any streaming milestones you’re proud of? Can you tell us when you did and how you and your community responded?
I’m still a relative newbie, so I haven’t hit any of the notable milestones yet.

Where can people find you?
I’m on Twitter and Tumblr at @nursinggeek, and on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/nursinggeek

When can people find you on Twitch?
Right now, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons.

David Payne – TelinArtho

David has always considered himself a writer, and writing has always been a passion of his, even though for many years, it wasn’t his priority. Renewed in 2021 with “Writing Purpose”, he is embarking on writing while streaming and getting his work out there. Come join him in the writing adventure!

What do you stream? (or write in what genre)
I write whatever strikes my fancy, though I tend to default to Fantasy/SciFi/Other Speculative Fiction. Contemporary Fiction, Memoir, and others have been known to pop up too.

How long have you been streaming?
Since the beginning of December 2021.

How do you keep your viewers engaged?
Still learning – but I use productivity sprints, and engage each viewer as they chat.

What is your favorite thing about streaming?
I love writing, and I found I am most productive while streaming. What I love most though is talking with people who also love writing, or reading for that matter.

Where can people find you?

When can people find you on Twitch?
7am-8:30am (M-F, EST) is my schedule, but I will do plenty of other streams, including on the weekends, as my schedule allows.

Day 6 – 31 Days 31 Stories Prompts

I figured we could change things up a bit. Should be fun! Prompt reminders are at the bottom in case you need them.

This year is starting out fantastically! The stories are coming out and flowing. It is still early though. How are your experiences?

Night Thinking

Prompt 1

A moment to rest becomes a moment of startling realization, and unexpected truths revealed.

Prompt 2

Use this sentence:
A moment of perfection rarely came.

So, what do you think of the story prompts so far? Have you visited the streamers to share what you’re creating? Or discuss it? It’s a lot of fun.

Keep in mind:
Prompt 1 will be a scene setting sort of prompt.
Prompt 2 will be a ā€˜Use this sentence (or partial sentence) prompt.

All prompts are optional, but a nice way to track how many youā€™ve done.

Sapha Burnell – UsurperKings

ā€œSapha is like a young Wolfgang Pauli, in every laboratory he went, there was a little explosion.ā€ Cyberpunk/magic realism author and poet Sapha Burnellā€™s works (Usurper Kings, Son of Abel & Neon Lieben) were dubbed ā€œjaw-droppingly beautifulā€, ā€œan insane, diabolical, kick-ass rollercoasterā€ and ā€œhauntingly beautifulā€. Literary critic Ella J said of Neon Lieben, ā€œI never thought a science fiction story could be so beautifulā€. Sapha writes on the interlock between mysticism, mythology and science with a pugilistā€™s eye. The product of Vancouverā€™s multiculturalism, Sapha steeped in divergent cultures, religious experiences and gender roles, until battling with traditional opinions became a daily war. On hiatus from the written word, she volunteered in West Africa, and returned to Canada with an international perspective. As an editor & literary theorist, Saphaā€™s work focuses on comparative mythology & the ethics of futurism. On Twitch, Sapha critiques prose twice a week, and writes online once. A member of The Writers Union of Canada, Sapha lives in BC with their spouse and speaks on gender roles, cyberpunk, martial arts, comparative mythology, wine education and religion, when the #hallowesfam isnā€™t chatting it up on discord or twitch.

Day 5 – 31 Days to 31 Stories Prompt

Remember: Prompts are not required.

You can merge prompts if you choose.

You can use your own prompts or your own intention for your story as well.

The biggest goal is to produce a short story over 1,000 within 24 hours from the time you began (or in the time you committed to)

Prompt 1 will be a scene setting type of prompt.
Prompt 2 will be a “Use this sentence (or partial sentence)” prompt.

Keep in mind we’re also doing great stuff on the discord channel. We’re creating threads and developing chatter and story ideas. See you there!

Prompt 1 – Submitted by DarthTorLin via TwitchStream

A Trip to a Writers Convention held by Writers. Meeting all the famous writers! Who would you want to visit first? Would you hang out with Twitch Writers , and who , and why ?

Tell the story from a character’s perspective and show us how it would work for that author character.

Prompt 2 –

(Their) pulse raced until only the thumping of the heart resonated in (their) ears.

The () means we can adjust the word inside to reflect the appropriate pronoun for the given story. Pronouns are often adjustable based on situation and circumstance in a story. One day you’re creating a tale about a strapping knight and if you change he to she now you’re creating it about a woman instead. Or they could be someone who’d not allowing the world to box them in. You’ve got options. Play with it and have fun! šŸ™‚

See you in the discord chat.

31 Days AHEAD!

Oh, the wonderful things we plan as the world continues to spin. It’s great to see the growth and excitement so many have for 31 days. I hate that as the organizer, I’ve been badly distracted. There is still much to do and little time to do it.

As we are getting into 31 days 31 stories I am going to be excited about some of the things coming up. We have a lot of wonderful YouTubers and Twitter’s joining the streaming of 31 days. I will provide you with a write-up on all of them so keep your eyes out for previews and updates and information so that you can get to know the streamers that will be sharing and supporting the 31 days community.

If you are joining us for the adventure and fun head, you can visit http://Inexhaustible.media/31-stories to get signed up.

31 Days Writing Challenge

Prompts will begin on Friday. There will be two prompts in each post. There may also be a video posted on YouTube. I will post here a list of streamers that you can look for and follow for support during this writing event. Please continue to engage with the streamers as you need to.

If you have not gotten your 31 days guide book which is available on this site and through TheLadyWrites stream, you will be able to get it in the Discord.

If you are looking for the guidebook go to 31 resources in the Discord.

You will also find streamers that are support streamers. These streamers are not actually writing for 31 short stories but they do know the rules and have a guidebook. They are able to assist those who might need help with the actual writing process. These people are an asset and available if you want to visit their streams.

One streaming example is TheTigerWrites

While we typically have a launch event, unfortunately 31 days in January this year will not have a major streaming launch event. There is a plethora of things going on around it and we are searching for a way to celebrate. I’m open to suggestions.

For all of those still looking for an email that I meant to send out a week ago, hopefully this works. I owe all of you an apology. I did not intend to get this backed up. We are getting things back on track as we go.

There will be a weekly wrap-up. An opportunity for streamers and writers to share their work, talk about their week with 31 days, and answer questions. Should something come up in the conversations and you would like to discuss it, please don’t hesitate to mention it to me prior to our weekly wrap-up.

The weekly wrap-up and all of our streamers are hosted through Inexhaustible Media on Twitch. If you are not following that channel, please do so now. This will be your streaming source of information for 31 days.
